Lithuania aims to intensify ties with the Republic of Korea
On 6 March, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Darius Skusevičius met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Lithuania Sung-joo Choi and discussed possibilities for strengthening bilateral political and economic ties, and the security situation in the Baltic and East Asian regions.
The participants of the meeting welcomed the successful meeting of Presidents of the two countries in Seoul the previous month. They also agreed to organize bilateral political consultations in Vilnius in 2018 and to complete the harmonization process of authorizations for exports of Lithuanian poultry products.
The meeting discussed also a draft agreement on the working holiday program, which was submitted to the Republic of Korea by Lithuania.
“Every year, dozens of students from Lithuanian and South Korean universities come to our countries for part time studies abroad, thus, a bilateral working holiday program for young people would undoubtedly contribute to further strengthening of the relationship between Lithuania and South Korea,” said Skusevičius.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Sung-joo Choi shared important insights into the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and took interest in the activity of NATO troops in the Baltic region.
The Ambassador Sung-joo Choi, who resides in Warsaw, presented his letters of credence to the President of Lithuania in January 2017.
