Ambassador G. Varvuolis visits the Port of Brussels

On the 25th of September the Ambassadors of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia visited the inland port of Brussels. During the visit Mr. Alfons Maens, General Manager of the Port of Brussels, presented the operating principles, main clients and future projects of the port, highlighted the importance of cooperation between the harbour and Brussels city.

The most important partners of the Port of Brussels  are Dutch and Belgian sea ports. The harbour is also transshipping goods from the Baltic States. More than 100 000 tons of goods (mostly steel and wood products) from Lithuania were loaded  at the Port of Brussels.

The port is an important logistics centre and transport hub of Brussels city. With over 350 businesses based in or around the harbour, it generates some 12 000 direct and indirect jobs. It also reduces the traffic load. The Port of Brussels helps to avoid over 600 000 road vehicles each year.
