On 17 February 2014 Embassy of Lithuania in Belgium, Permanent Representation of Lithuania to the European Union and Permanent Representation of Lithuania to NATO celebrated the 96th anniversary of the restoration of the state of Lithuania in the City Hall of Brussels.

Ambassador of Lithuania to the Kingdom of Belgium Mr Gediminas Varvuolis has addressed in his speech the guests from the Belgian government institutions and the diplomatic corps, EU and NATO institutions, members of the European Parliament. Ambassador G.Varvuolis described the day of the restoration of the state of Lithuania and the historical importance of the Act of Independence of 16 February 1918 to the statehood. Despite wars and occupations, the Act had remained in force.
