Embassy of Lithuania together with the embassies of Poland and Belarus organised a concert to celebrate the 250th birth anniversary of M. K. Ogiński

The Embassy of Lithuania together with the Embassies of Poland and Belarus organised a concert in the Flemish town Heist-op-den-Berg (province of Antwerp), which was dedicated to celebrate the 250th birth anniversary of Michał Kleofas Ogiński.  

All the works of Michał Kleofas Ogiński were performed by the Flemish Chamber Orchestra led by conductor Herman Engels. The audience mainly consisted of guests from Flanders. The concert was followed by a reception, where the representatives of the local government, Flanders Minister-president’s head of administration, and businessmen gathered together.

During the opening speech, given by the ambassador of Lithuania Gediminas Varvuolis on behalf of three embassies composer’s life was presented. The ambassador also talked about the influence of M. K. Oginski’s works on famous composers of the Romanticism era not only in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth but also in Europe.

The concert was held to emphasize that UNESCO declared the year of 2015 as the year of M.K. Oginski. ‘This concert is an excellent example of how three countries cooperate together on an international level in order to preserve the common historical and cultural heritage’ said the ambassador during his opening speech. The exhibition by three photographers Algimantas Aleksandravičius (Lithuania), Vitaly Rakovich (Belarus) and Prot Jarnuszkiewicz (Poland) ‘Farewell to the Homeland’, previously displayed in the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, was presented during the event.
