Lithuania is celebrating the 25thAnniversary of the Restoration of the Independent State

Commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the restoration of Lithuania’s independence started in Brussels on 4 March, by releasing to the sky 124 balloons of the colors of Lithuanian flag, which symbolized 124 signatories of the Act on the Restoration of an Independent State of Lithuania.

The event was marked by the presence of Lithuanian Parliament speaker Loreta Graužinienė, who expressed her gratitude for the enthusiasm and patriotism of Lithuanians in Belgium. “We are members of EU and NATO for almost eleven years and we are proud of our achievements. However, we must continue working to ensure that there is no threat for our and Europe’s freedom” - said L. Graužinienė.

During the visit in Brussels, Lithuanian Parliament speaker Loreta Graužinienė had working meetings with Belgian officials.

During the meeting with President of the Belgian Senate Christine Defraigne the cooperation between the two countries, the geopolitical situation in the region, the Eastern Partnership issues and counter terrorism issues were discussed. Loreta Graužinienė welcomed further strengthening of inter-parliamentary cooperation  and invited the President of the Senate Christine Defraigne to visit Lithuania.

Loreta Graužinienė visited also the Belgian Parliament, where she met the President of the Chamber of Representatives Siegfried Bracke. Speakers agreed to strengthen political, economic and military cooperation. The issues of economic cooperation and the presence of Belgium regions in Lithuania were also discussed.
