W.Kentridge Art Exhibition opened in Kaunas 2022

#Kaunas2022 | The National M.K. Čiurlionis Museum of Art in Kaunas has opened the William Kentridge exhibition "That Which We Do Not Remember". The Litvak genius of contemporary art presents his first exhibition in Lithuania.
With his exhibition, Kentridge invites us to be unafraid to close the cracks of memory in order to understand both the present and ourselves more clearly. The displacement of facts, stories and memories as a means of self-preservation or propaganda is a characteristic of many societies.
The artist's return to Lithuania, where the history of his family and nation has been relegated to the margins of memory, is highly symbolic. He has returned in the hope of filling in the gaps in his own memory and, at the same time, to speak to us about what we do not remember, consciously or unconsciously.
Growing up in Johannesburg, South Africa, Kentridge began working during apartheid, and his work is inseparable from the pervasive sense of place and the poignant themes of human rights, racial and wealth inequality, revolution, the perplexing juxtaposition of honourable ideals and the shameful everyday reality that has encroached on human dignity.
The exhibition runs until 30 November this year.
